Dear Birthmother,
Dear Expectant Mother,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter and to get to know us and our hearts. There are no words that can express the difficult decision you are facing. We can not even begin to imagine all the emotions you must be feeling while navigating this process, and words cannot express our gratitude for your strength, courage, and selflessness. In the hope of easing your mind and aiding in this life-changing decision, we have two promises we’d like to make to you, if you bless us with this gift.
First, we promise to love, care for, provide for, and pursue your child every single day for the rest of our lives. There is literally nothing we would not do for them and literally nothing they could ever do to change our love for them. They will be accepted into our home by our families, friends, and community, and they will be loved for who they are as a human being.
Second, we promise to fully respect and engage with whatever level of openness you desire. We promise to walk side by side with you through this journey of loss, pain, joy, love, and tears to whatever degree you would have us. We fully understand the complexity of this situation and want what is best for your child and you.
Sincerely,
Cassie, Zach, and Slate
About Us
When we got married in 2010, we thought we were so alike. As the years have progressed, we have been surprised at how different we truly are and how much we complement each other. Zachary is a very outgoing person who is truly one of the most enjoyable people to be around. His humor and passion for life are infectious. He leads worship at our church as well as plays multiple instruments and has a degree in audio production. For work, he does iOS development on a local app, and he loves being able to create something and problem solve. Cassie is more of an introvert but loves to be outside doing anything she can. She loves to help people and has volunteered at a local domestic abuse shelter with women for the last 19 years. For work, she creates floral arrangements and decor for weddings. She loves being able to help people bring their vision to life.
Our Home
We live in a quiet urban neighborhood with several schools within walking distance. Our neighbors are incredibly friendly and love to spoil our son and dogs with treats. There is a park three blocks from our house with two playgrounds and a pond as well as an outdoor community pool that is open in the summers. The zoo and downtown of our city, with all that it offers, is only a five-minute car ride, and we can also easily bike to all of these locations. We have two dogs: Clyde, our eight-year-old Great Dane, and Ozzie, our eight-year-old Staffordshire terrier. We got Clyde when he was a puppy and adopted Ozzie when he was four.
Our Extended Family
Cassie comes from a very large family where adoption is the norm. She is the second of 15 children with 11 adopted siblings. Four of her siblings are married, and she has three nephews and three nieces. She sees five of her siblings on a weekly basis and spends at least one day a week with her nephew (five years old) and niece (one year old). Her mom watches our son, Slate, one day a week with his cousins; they have the best time!
Zachary is the second of four siblings. We gather together as a family weekly. Being relatively close in age, Zachary and his siblings are all very close, and time spent together is typically filled with laughter and good conversation. Zachary’s older sister has three children (two boys and a girl) our son loves to run around and play with. Zachary’s
mother watches our son once a week as well.
Family is incredibly important to us, and we feel so blessed to have so many wonderful people surrounding and supporting us on this journey.
What Led Us To Adoption
We started talking about adoption early in our relationship. Cassie has 11 adopted siblings and has always known she wanted to pursue adoption. Zachary became passionate about it as he observed Cassie’s family. In 2018 we started our first journey with adoption, and on Christmas Day 2019, we got a call we were chosen. A little boy born the day before was waiting for us. To say we were excited is a HUGE understatement. Within two hours of the call, we were meeting our son’s birthmom. It was truly the most amazing day of our lives. We are so excited to continue growing our family with a new blessing.
