Mike & Liz
RACE OF CHILD INTERESTED IN ADOPTING:
Dear Expectant Mother,
Thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We think you are so brave and incredibly loving to bring your child into the world and find them a safe and loving home. We are so grateful and excited to provide a home where they will thrive: where they can play outside with friends in a safe neighborhood, explore the woods, experience the city, and see the world beyond their front door.
Our family is excited to join us on this journey. Our parents will be overjoyed to welcome their first grandchild and shower them with love and affection. We have a large and diverse family and chosen family who will foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere that shows there are many ways to thrive within a great community. In our home, our child will feel loved and safe. We will teach them to be strong, independent, and kind, and we will help them grow to be the best version of themself.
We will ensure they know where they came from and what you gave to give them life. No matter what, you will always be a very important part of their life. We appreciate the sacrifices you are making and want to support you in this process as best we can.
Hello! We’re Liz and Mike! We met in college in the fall of 2007 through our chemistry coursework and began dating shortly thereafter. Our lives converged very quickly in our relationship, and we have continually grown stronger as a couple over the years, supporting each other’s goals as we navigate all of life’s joys and challenges. In some ways, our personalities are very different, yet we found in each other exactly what we were looking for in a partner. Liz is brilliant, enthusiastic, passionate, and constantly seeking new adventures for us to experience together. Mike is kind, thoughtful, and intelligent. Mike is now a biophysics professor, and Liz is a research scientist. We enjoy traveling, exploring cities and nature, and eating great food. We love spending time with the community of friends and family we have built, and we cannot wait to welcome a new child into our lives.
We live in a beautiful suburb in a spacious and bright townhome on Lake Michigan. We walk our two sweet and loving beagles, Bella and Rufus, on the lake and through nearby woods. There are many beautiful parks and trails nearby, and an expansive bike path passes by our home. The grade schools are walking distance, very safe, and very good. We appreciate the peacefulness of the neighborhood as well as the proximity to the city. We are a very short drive to city attractions like restaurants, museums, theaters, sports venues, and more. For us, it is the perfect combination of being close to the city, where we enjoy a vibrant social life, and the serenity of a quiet spot on the lake.
Our Extended Family
We have a wonderful relationship with our families. Our parents and Mike’s brothers live on the West Coast, and while we miss living near them, we stay close through frequent phone calls, texts, and travel.
We are fortunate to have lots of space to host family when they visit, and when we get together, we enjoy cooking, hiking, doing puzzles, and sharing our hobbies. During our last visit to see Liz's parents, Liz took her dad rock climbing for the first time ever! Our parents stay with us a few times each year.
We enjoy traveling with each other’s family and have visited many beautiful places together. We have a tradition of a joint family Christmas dinner, where we bring together our two families, and our parents seem like old friends when they get together. We are also close to Liz’s uncle’s family, which is driving distance and includes her aunt, younger cousins, and a beagle named Blueford.
What Led Us To Adoption
We are very excited to become parents and welcome a child into our loving home. Mike grew up with an adopted cousin and has always viewed adoption as a wonderful way to become a parent. Since Liz was very little, she has felt that adopting is a moral thing to do because there are many children without homes. This was very apparent to her through working with the charity her family runs, which housed homeless people, and through riding the public bus with the foster kids who lived in a group home down the street. When we decided we were ready to create a family, we tried to get pregnant. When our efforts were unsuccessful, adoption felt very clearly like the right avenue for us.
